Berel Lang is one of the foremost philosophers, critics, and theorists on narrative, the concept of style, art, and questions of representation of the Holocaust in the world. He has written widely and powerfully on some of the most perplexing issues of our time. His books include: Faces and Other Ironies of Writing and Reading (Hackett, 1983); Writing and the Holocaust (Yale, 1989); Act and Idea in the Nazi Genocide (Chicago, 1990); The Anatomy of Philosophical Style (Blackwell, 1990); Heidegger's Silence (Cornell, 1996); Writing and the Moral Self (Routledge, 1991); Holocaust Representation: Art within the Limits of History and Ethics (Johns Hopkins, 2000); Post-Holocaust: Interpretation, Misinterpretation, and the Claims of History (Indiana, 2005); Philosophical Witnessing: The Holocaust as Presence (University Press of New England, 2009). His most recent book, Primo Levi: The Matter of a Life, was published by Yale in 2013.
