Full Description:

See Sixth-Generation Director Wang Xiaoshuai's acclaimed "Beijing Bicycle." His film is the feature event of WMCI co-sponsored "China's Urban Filmmaking" segment of the 2012 Global Film Festival, and will screen after an Asian Fusion reception from 6-7pm. The film screening will be followed by a Q and A session between Director Wang and the audience over Skype. Emily Wilcox, Visiting Assistant Professor in WM's Department of Chinese Language and Literature, will translate. All welcome!

In the tradition of the Italian neo-realist classic The Bicycle Thief, this film tells the story of a 17-year-old boy who travels to Beijing from his home in rural China. A landmark work of China's "Urban Generation" of filmmakers, this film explores social issues affecting the lives of urban youths as well as the age-old questions surrounding urban-rural dynamics.
