Professor Geri Richmond from University of Oregon has been invited by the Chemistry and Applied Science Departments and will present "Mulling Over Emulsions:  Understanding the Love-Hate Relationships at Oil-Water Interfaces".
Professor Geri Richmond is the Presidential Chair in Science and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oregon. In 2018, Prof. Richmond was awarded the Priestley Medal, the highest honor conferred by the American Chemical Society, for her remarkable scientific insights regarding the behavior of molecules at the air-water and oil-water interfaces, as well as her numerous contributions beyond the lab including co-founding COACh, an organization dedicated to giving women skills for successful science careers in the United States and around the globe. Professor Richmond was awarded the National Medal of Science in 2013 and became a Member of the National Academy of Sciences in 2011. She was elected as president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2015  and appointed to the National Science Board 2012-2016 by President Obama. She received her  undergraduate degree in chemistry from Kansas State University and her  Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. An Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Bryn Mawr College from 1980-1985, Prof. Richmond has been at University of Oregon since 1985.
