Chinese dance utilizes song and movement to entertain and delight audiences of all cultures. Each ethnic variety is expressive of the particular spirit and aesthetic sensibilities of the culture from which it originally emerged. Dance, therefore, serves as a great lens through which one can better understand the complex multiethnic culture of modern China. Over six class sessions, this course will focus on one or two ethnic minority dances such as Tibetan dance, Uyghur (Xinjiang) dance, or the Yang-ge folk dance (handkerchief dance) of the northern Han people. Over the course of the section, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese ethnic minority culture, as well as the ability to perform the dances independently and as a group.

The Class will meet between 10 and 11 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The cost is $10/class for community students ($80 for 8 classes, $100 for 10 classes); $5/class for W&M faculty, staff, and students ($40 for 8 classes, $50 for 10 classes). {{https://forms.wm.edu/form/view/17050/cb41c049f25a19ede80920aa58f3f587, Please sign up online here today to secure your spot as the classes are filling up quickly!}}
