Dr. Johnny Finn is an Associate Professor of Geography and Chair of the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology at Christopher Newport University.

The lines of racial segregation in most metropolitan areas in the United States are as stark today as at any point in the past 40 years. In this masterclass, Dr. Johnny Finn will show how discriminatory housing policies across much of the twentieth century reverberate throughout contemporary urban life in the form of ongoing racial, economic, environmental, and health disparities. Participants will gain hands-on experience using publicly available datasets to visualize patterns of urban inequality, and will leave inspired to advocate for a more racially and environmentally just future.

Dr. Johnny Finn is an Associate Professor of Geography and Chair of the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology at Christopher Newport University. He has published over 40 articles, book chapters, reports, and op-eds and has delivered more than 150 invited lectures across North America, Latin America, and Europe. His work was recently showcased in a solo exhibition at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art.
