Information about WOS 2013 Student Travel Awards

Procedure and Notification

•Applications for student travel awards to the WOS 2013 annual conference are due by November 15, 2012. Students must complete an application and submit a travel budget and expanded abstract to be considered for a travel award. The travel budget should include transportation and accommodation expenses only (travel awards will not cover expenses associated with registration or meals). The expanded abstract must be written in English, and no more than 2 pages of double-spaced text, using minimum 1” margins, and 12-point font size. Applicants may optionally include a third page with up to 2 tables or figures with captions.
•Please note that submission of an abstract for a travel award is not submission of the abstract for registration. Individuals applying for Student Travel Awards must still register for the meeting and submit a regular standard abstract for the Scientific Program. To be officially considered for the scientific program, students must submit revised, concise abstracts to the Scientific Program committee no later that January 7, 2013 (at that point, you can also indicate if you wish to be considered for a student presentation award, which is separate from the travel award competition). Notification about travel awards will be sent out by mid- to late December so that students will know the amount of their awards prior to final call for abstracts for the scientific program.

Eligibility for Student Travel Awards

•Students at the undergraduate, MS and PhD level will be eligible to apply for a Travel Award. In addition, individuals who have recently completed their degree requirements, in the spring or summer of 2012, will also be eligible to apply. Recent graduates must, however, be presenting results of research that was carried out during their most recent degree program.

Evaluation
•Awards will be determined through a competitive process among applicants intending to present work associated with each of several educational levels (undergraduate, MS, PhD).

•Decisions of the Student Travel Awards Committee will be based on evidence of eligibility in the application, and on clarity, completeness, scientific merit, and originality of the research to be presented, as detailed in the expanded abstract.

Submission

Assemble the completed cover sheet, expanded abstract and budget as a Abobe pdf. Please name the file with last name and initials of applicant, e.g., “WallaceAR.pdf”.
