“The Jewish Background of Spinoza, or How Spinoza reads the Bible through Rabbinic Lenses”

Yitzhak Melamed is one of the pre-eminent Spinoza scholars in the world. He is the author of Spinoza’s Metaphysics: Substance and Thought (Oxford 2013) and editor of Spinoza and German Idealism (with Eckhart Foerster, Cambridge 2012), Spinoza’s Theological-Political Treatise: A Critical Guide, (with Michael Rosenthal, Cambridge 2010), and The Young Spinoza: A Metaphysician in the Making (Oxford 2015), and has been the recipient of the Fulbright, Mellon, ACLS, NEH, and Humboldt Fellowships.
