Erin Murphy is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. She will discuss discuss ?Gerrymandering at the Supreme Court.?
She has a distinguished record of Supreme Court and appellate litigation, including her argument at the Court in Gill v. Whitford, in which she defended the Wisconsin State Legislature in the Supreme Court against charges of partisan gerrymandering.
Ms. Murphy is currently representing the North Carolina Senate Redistricting Committee in North Carolina v. Covington (another high-profile partisan gerrymandering case) before the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Murphy also successfully represented the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas v. United States, as well as successfully arguing McCutcheon v. FEC, a landmark campaign finance case.
She has also briefed high-profile cases including NFIB v. Sebelius, Hughes v. Talen Energy Marketing, and American Broadcasting Companies v. Aereo.She has appeared before the majority of circuits in the U.S. Court of Appeals, arguing significant points in constitutional and statutory law.
