The Virginia Aquarium (VAQ) has conducted over two decades of humpback whale research off the mid-Atlantic coast including aerial and vessel surveys. These efforts demonstrate the U.S. mid-Atlantic coast provides seasonal habitat for humpback, fin, right and minke whales. Humpback whales are the most commonly documented species nearshore. Evidence of extended residency, annual return and feeding behaviors suggests the mid-Atlantic region provides important seasonal habitat. Sarah Mallette, Marine Mammal Reasearch Manager at the Virginia Aquarium, will present an overview of these efforts and how these data are being used to inform management.

There is no charge for this presentation. Seating limited to 60 people.
