Gabriella Ghermandi is an award winning Ethiopian-Italian writer, musician and oral storyteller. In recent years, her much studied novel Queen of Flowers and Pearls (2007) has been translated into both English and Amharic, and her musical ensemble, Atse Tewodros Project, has traveled extensively to share their unique merger of traditional Ethiopian and Italian styles, alongside tales of memory, migration, and common futures. In conjunction with Prof. Seger’s COLL 150 course, “Eating Italian: Food, Self and Society in Italian Literature and Film,” Gabriella will speak with us about Ethiopian foodways, the hybrid cuisines that emerge from colonial histories, and more. All are welcome to join for what is sure to be a captivating event!
