[PAST EVENT] Ewell Concert Series: Black Sea Hotel

Black Sea Hotel captures an other-worldly sonic experience, wonderfully concordant and discordant (to my post-punk ear), unique sound on this planet (Kremena Stancheva, Soloist, Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares).
Black Sea Hotel is a New York-based Balkan a cappella trio that recreates traditional Balkan music, finding new ways to use melody, harmony and rhythm to tell ancient stories that still resonate today. Sometimes lyrical and ethereal, sometimes dissonant and driving, the trio creates a harmonic blend that has been called haunting and otherworldly. Listeners often exclaim that they cannot believe the sound is coming from only three voices. Black Sea Hotel performs at diverse venues--concert halls, universities, downtown clubs, folk festivals and embassies. Their live performances and their self-titled album have received widespread acclaim. The trio was the Editor's Pick and Featured Artist on CD Baby, # 2 on iTunes World Music Top Albums, and #18 on Lucid Culture's top 50 best albums of 2009.
