"The Soldier's Tale Retold" features music from Igor Stravinsky's virtuosic L'Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier's Tale) with choreography by Joan Gavaler, and text by Laurie Wolf. This collaborative work will be performed by conductor Paul Bhasin and the Music Department's Chamber Winds Ensemble, narrator Elizabeth Wiley, and members of Orchesis Dance Company. "Newton's Cradle" by Joan Gavaler and Dan Plehal explores the laws of physics in a collaborative duet integrating dance, physical theatre and acro-yoga. Denise Damon Wade's "Reach Across the Aisle" reflects the troubling state of politics in America, specifically, bipartisanship and the U.S. Congress. "Home" is a short film by Denise Damon Wade inspired by a man and his 1920's house in Cape Charles, Virginia. THE WORD is a reconstruction of Paul Taylor's 1998 work, "inspired by images of organized religion, the Bible and the Byzantine Era painting entitled "The Heavenly Ladder of St. John Climacus." Parisa Khobdeh, principle dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, has reconstructed this piece on William & Mary students assisted by Leah Glenn as rehearsal director. In addition to running rehearsals for the Taylor reconstruction, Leah Glenn has choreographed an original work entitled "Figuring Out How To Fall." In this piece Glenn shares an abstract exploration of how we gracefully (and sometimes not so gracefully) deal with illness and trauma.
