[PAST EVENT] Celebrating Constitution Day: The Importance of Civic Participation

Constitutional Conversations will open its 2013-14 program with "Celebrating Constitution Day: The Importance of Civic Participation." The event will be held at the Williamsburg Regional Library Theater on Thursday, September 12th, from at 6:30-8:00 P.M. The library is located at 515 Scotland Street Williamsburg, VA 23185.
Speakers will include:
-George Allen, former U.S Representative and Senator and Virginia's 67th Governor
-Clyde Haulman, Mayor of Williamsburg and Professor Emeritus of Economics at William & Mary
-C. Lawrence Evans, Newton Family Professor of Government at William & Mary
Panelists will discuss the importance of civic participation at the state and community levels to promote a robust Constitutional democracy. Each panelist will give a brief reflection on the promotion of civic engagement, including insight as to why civic participation has declined over the past few decades and sharing recommendations for boosting participation. Following the individual comments, the Constitutional Conversations staff will lead a question and answer period with the participating speakers. Audience participation is encouraged, provided the questions and comments are related to this topic.
Constitutional Conversations is an award-winning, non-partisan, community-based education project designed to send law students into the community to educate citizens about their civic rights and duties. The Constitutional Conversations program is supported by the Institute of Bill of Rights Law at William & Mary Law School, Williamsburg Regional Library and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
