[PAST EVENT] Reading by Poet, Memoirist, and Biographer Quincy Troupe

Named as the English department's new Class of 1939 Artist in Residence, Quincy Troupe is the award-winning author of 10 books of poetry, three children's books, and six works of nonfiction. Winner of three American Book Awards (for Snake-Back Solos: Selected Poems, and Miles: The Autobiography of Miles Davis) and a 2010 American Book Award for Lifetime Achievement, his memoir Miles and Me will soon become a feature film. He's also the co-author of Earl the Pearl: My Story, an autobiography of Earl Monroe, the NY Knicks basketball star. He co-authored with Chris Gardner, The Pursuit of Happyness, a New York Times bestseller for over 40 weeks and the basis of the 2006 motion picture starring Will Smith. Troupe's latest books of poems are Transcircularities, The Architecture of Language, and Erranities.
Professor emeritus of the University of California, San Diego, Troupe is also the editor of Black Renaissance Noire, a literary, visual arts and academic journal of the Institute of African-American Affairs at New York University.
I come out of St. Louis, the black culture there and the music there. I grew up in the church.
