Dr. Diane Wolf is Professor of Sociology and Director of Jewish Studies at the University of California, Davis. Her areas of expertise include gender and family dynamics, memory, children and trauma as well as feminist research methods. Her lecture will draw from her most recent book on the Holocaust and the experiences and lived trauma of 'hidden' children. Beyond Anne Frank: Hidden Children and Postwar Families in Holland (University of California) is based on oral histories of of adults who were Jewish children hidden by non-Jewish families in the Netherlands during World War II. Wolf's findings extend well beyond the study of the Holocaust with important implications for understanding family dynamics in post-traumatic situations as well as the impact of genocide and violence on the emotional and social well-being of children.
