Professor Heystek will be speaking to these questions, specifically:
1. What are some important peculiarities of South African schooling that make its context unique, and what are the most important common challenges that American urban educators and South African educators could collaborate in meeting?
2. When many international educational comparisons are discounted because of the homogeneity of their student populations, what international comparisons do you find most helpful for South African education leaders?
3. Is there a difference in the way trust is built across racial and class lines, as opposed to between people of the same racial or class background? What challenges and opportunities does the additional baggage of history present for South African and urban U.S. educators?
Come with questions of your own, as well!
