William & Mary students are invited to attend a talk by Rachael Rowland, Vice President of State Affairs at Anthem, Inc., one of the largest health benefits companies in the United States. Anthem's health plan affiliated companies serve over 72 million people in 25 states, paying $213 billion in benefits and processing 673 million claims. The talk is entitled, "Health Policy and Health Insurers." This event is being sponsored by the Schroeder Center for Health Policy. Free lunch will be provided.

Prior to working at Anthem, Ms. Rowland served as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs & Strategic Business Development at Magellan Health Services; National Vice President of Government Affairs at UnitedHealth Group; Vice President of Government and Public Relations at MAXIMUS; and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She received her B.A. in English and Sociology from William & Mary.

Ms. Rowland will describe her position at Anthem, her interaction with policymakers, and how knowledge of public policy makes for a more effective leader. In addition, she will provide advice to students who want to work in policy areas related to private health insurance, Medicare/Medicaid, or regulation.
