[PAST EVENT] French-language Education and Literature in Louisiana: Writing and Teaching as a Linguistic Minority

Kirby Jambon is an internationally acclaimed poet from Louisiana. He is also an educator in one of Louisiana?s French immersion public schools in Lafayette, LA. Kirby has won numerous awards and quickly gained notoriety for his first collection of poems L??cole gombo (2006). More recently he was awarded the prestigious Prix Henri de R?gnier by the Acad?mie fran?aise in December 2014 for his work, Petites communions : po?mes, chansons et jonglements (2013). Both of these collections are published by the only French-language press in the U.S., Les ?ditions Tintamarre at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. His poetry draws on, but is certainly not limited to, conceptions of francophone identity and culture in North America, particularly his native Louisiana. Although, Kirby Jambon writes in French, the talk will be in English and targets a wide audience including all modern languages and literature, education, American Studies, and English (among others).
