[PAST EVENT] Presidential Conversation: Leading with Purpose and the Future of Afghanistan
Access & Features
- Registration/RSVP
How do recent events in Afghanistan impact America’s foreign policy? What’s next for the embattled nation now that American troops have withdrawn? Hear insights from former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates ’65, L.H.D. ’98 and former Commander of Navy SEAL Team 2 Mike Hayes, who was on the ground during the war in Afghanistan. Hayes is author of the new book “Never Enough: A Navy SEAL Commander on Living a Life of Excellence, Agility, and Meaning” and knows what it means to lead when the stakes are high and a split-second decision can mean life or death.
In this conversation, hosted by President Katherine A. Rowe and moderated by Director of the Office of Student Veteran Engagement Charlie Foster M.Ed. ’17, Gates and Hayes will discuss the present and future of Afghanistan, battle- and boardroom-tested advice for leading with purpose and the role W&M can play in helping veterans transition to new leadership roles in civilian life.
