Mallory Moran is the archaeologist for Parks Canada for the Cape Breton Field Unit, and is based at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. Mallory obtained her Ph.D. in 2020 and M.A. in 2015 from the College of William and Mary, and her B.A. from Bennington College in 2011. Her academic research focused on the history of Indigenous Wolastoqey movement through Maine and New Brunswick. Her dissertation examined the historical and archaeological remains of portage routes, as well as linguistic evidence, to explore the ways that Wolastoqiyik have made meaning with, and navigated through, the landscapes of their homelands for generations. At Parks Canada, Mallory is responsible for evaluating and protecting sites of cultural heritage for each of the national parks on Cape Breton Island.
