"Rituals & Religion" by Ithamar Gruenwald, Thursday October 7th, 2021 at 1:30pm

Professor Michael Daise and the Program in Judaic Studies at William & Mary virtually welcomes Professor Ithamar Gruenwald:

‘In the eyes of many’, writes Professor Ithamar Gruenwald, ‘rituals constitute a riddle. Many people do not understand what makes rituals work and how the doing of rituals is essential to reaching specific goals’. Drawing from social ethnography, anthropology and the comparative study of religions, Professor Gruenwald will address this issue in a lecture for the William & Mary campus, arguing that rituals are not only ‘the dynamic core of social and religious systems’, but also ‘vital for the orderly functioning of bureaucratic organizations and structures’.

Please join us online for Professor Gruenwald’s lecture, followed by a Question and Answer session:
