Art and technology have the unique ability to build connections and to inspire action. Augmented Island Studios and mural artist Eric Skotnes are working together to develop murals and immersive Augmented Reality (AR) experiences that are designed to connect people to nature and to engage local communities in conservation action. The Institute for Integrative Conservation (IIC) is partnering with Augmented Island Studios, Eric Skotnes, the City of Williamsburg, Midtown Row, the W&M Office of Sustainability, the Muscarelle Museum of Art, and the W&M Art & Art History Department to host an Immersive Conservation Mural Pitch Competition this spring. We invite interdisciplinary teams of W&M students to pitch an idea for a mural and a corresponding AR experience designed to engage the Williamsburg community in meaningful conservation action.? Winning teams will receive a $300 prize and an opportunity to work alongside Augmented Island Studios, Eric Skotnes, and an interdisciplinary W&M team of experts to implement the mural and AR experience in fall 2021.

Visit the IIC Website and watch the recorded Info Session to learn more. Student teams should register by March 24th.

Interested students can sign up for the teammate finder.

Video pitch submissions are due on March 25th and the Virtual Mural Pitch Competition will be on April 9th. Reach out to the IIC (iic@wm.edu) with questions.
