Johns Hopkins University has invited W&M graduate student to attend…Careers in Publishing with Penguin Random House

Do you have a passion for books and the dialogues they foster between authors and communities of readers across space and time? Have you contemplated a career in publishing, but are not entirely sure what roles are available or of initial steps to break into the industry? Johns Hopkins PHutures invites W&M graduate students to join Stephen Garlington, Campus Recruiter, Penguin Random House, for a career education session on professional pathways to publishing. Stephen will discuss:

• Diverse roles at multiple levels (junior and senior) in the publishing industry, including editing, marketing, technology, and sales

• The day-to-day duties of these roles and the skillsets that professionals employ to perform them effectively

• The qualifications of successful candidates who land roles in publishing

This session may be of particular interest to students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who would like to learn more about the ins and outs of the publishing profession and how to leverage their doctoral training into a publishing role.
