Seagrasses provide important ecosystem services and are currently in a period of global decline. To protect and restore seagrass populations worldwide we must understand how they grow and disperse. Seeds provide seagrasses opportunities to disperse and recover from stressful periods, but have many processes curbing their survival. Determining the factors limiting seedling recruitment in seagrass ecosystems will thus have profound implications on population dynamics and successful restoration. This talk will highlight research investigating processes limiting seedling recruitment within natural populations and restoration programs locally here on the Eastern Shore as well as overseas.
