National and global events will continue to prompt challenging conversations at William & Mary. The more open we can be in engaging substantively, respectfully, and compassionately with each other and our students, the stronger W&M will be as a learning community. This half day of collaborative engagement for faculty and staff draws on campus expertise to prepare thoughtfully for the fall together in ways that prioritize our values and our mission of teaching, learning, and discovery. A voucher for lunch in the park will be provided, and attending leave-eligible employees can enjoy recognition hours to spend the rest of the day in the park at no additional cost.

A day pass, parking and lunch are provided by the university for W&M staff and faculty members.

Programming:
•    W&M professor and alumnus Peter Atwater '83 will discuss the way humans respond to intense uncertainty: how the sense of vulnerability that it creates affects human interactions and decision-making. (Those who are interested may borrow copies of Prof. Atwater’s book The Confidence Map: Charting a Path from Chaos to Clarity from W&M Libraries and register for a book discussion in July.)
•    Senior Vice President Ginger Ambler and Dean of University Libraries Carrie Cooper will share William & Mary’s “Better Arguments” program, focused on techniques for productive conversation across divides. (Our program is adapted from the Aspen Institute’s civic initiative of the same name.)

Register by July 8.
