Join W&M’s APIM Association (Asian, Pacific Islander & Middle Eastern) for a special evening celebrating Arab American Heritage Month (April) and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May)!
We are thrilled to have Sahaj Kaur Kohli ’10, the founder of Brown Girl Therapy, as our keynote speaker! An alumni panel discussion will follow the keynote, diving into their experiences at William & Mary and where they are now. The panel will include APIM Association Chair Jessica Chen ’05 as moderator, David Uy ’93, Banan Malkawi ’05 and Sahaj Kohli ’10.

Keynote Speaker Sahaj Kaur Kohli ’10 is a writer, speaker and mental health professional specializing in the intersection of cultural identity and mental wellbeing. She is the founder of Brown Girl Therapy, the first and largest mental health community for children of immigrants. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, The New York Times and more.
Panelist David Uy ’93 is an advocate, historian and founding director of the Chinese American museum in Washington D.C. He is the current chief operating officer of the Friends of the National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture.
Panelist Banan Malkawi ’05 is a founding member of the APIM Association. She is also an instructor at the Foreign Service Institute, a research fellow at the Politics and Society Institute and an independent consultant. Her expertise focuses on international studies, with a specialization in the Middle East region and Arab studies.
Panel Moderator Jessica Chen ’05 is the current chair of the APIM Association Advisory Board. She is Manager for Systems, Metrics, and Population Health at Disney Experiences Health Services, overseeing strategy and management for Health Services Systems and Analytics. With a background in digital transformation at the University of Pennsylvania, she also teaches Health Informatics at Thomas Jefferson University.
