[PAST EVENT] Banned Books Week at the Law Library
Access & Features
- Open to the public
To commemorate Banned Books Week, the Law Library created a display of works about obscenity and censorship. According to the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, there were over 700 challenges to library, school, and university materials across the nation in 2021, resulting in almost 1,600 challenged works. These works were predominately by or about Black or LGBTQIA+ people.
The display will be up from September 18 to 24 and is located on the First Floor of the library near the timeline. We encourage everyone to stop by and read about the history of obscenity law and censorship. While you’re there, you can also find and check out treatises on specific trials, texts detailing censorship and obscenity law, and lists of banned books in the United States and around the globe. Please contact Devan Orr at [[dorr]] with any questions.
