Virtual Wine Tasting with DuCard Vineyards
Access & Features
DuCard Vineyards is a boutique winery bordering the Shenandoah National Park, just north of Charlottesville. Known for top quality wines, a gorgeous country setting and a relaxing vibe, it’s owned by Scott Elliff and his wife Karen Yannello '74. Scott will lead the group through the tasting and give us an insider view of the challenges and fulfillment of being in the Virginia wine business – including various stories and anecdotes. You may have seen him on various ‘virtual tasting’ internet events during the last six months and if so you’ll know that the event will be lighthearted, interesting and fun.
What we're tasting:
- Signature Viognier 2019 – the latest vintage of this premium varietal that has received Gold Medal s and acclaim over the years. It’s an aromatic dry white wine featuring wildflowers, honey and melon, oh my. Great with scallops and crab cakes, with a rich mid palate and lingering finish.
- Merlot 2017 – This is the final wine release from the fabulous 2017 vintage. It offers up a welcoming nose of tobacco and herbs with some plum and blackberry back notes. Blended with a touch of Petit Verdot and aged for 10 months in French and American oak, this Merlot is rich and flavorful yet smooth and easy-drinking.
- C’est Trop 2019 - Port-style red wine utilizing Virginia Native Norton grapes, fortified with brandy and aged in used whisky barrels. With clove and violet tones and rich, smooth taste it is indeed entirely “too much.” This is a semi-sweet dessert wine, perfect for relaxing after dinner on the back patio, on the beach watching sunset, or getting cozy in front of a fire.
