What is the value of a woman’s voice?

What is the value of YOUR voice?

What is the cost when we remain silent?

Please join us for a reception followed by a book talk and discussion with Dana Rubin, author of “Speaking While Female.” Did you know that women’s voices helped create and shape our nation for more than four centuries — but they’ve been almost completely overlooked by the history books? That women’s voices are still significantly underrepresented in our public discourse?

Dana Rubin will share what she’s uncovered about the secret history of American women’s speech from 1637 to the present, and how diverse women of every background have spoken out to create our ideals and institutions. She’ll explain what led her on a multiyear project to excavate thousands of overlooked speeches by women. She’ll discuss why women’s voices have been discounted throughout history, how that impacts each of us today and what it means for future generations. She’ll also share concrete tips so that we can all become stronger, more confident and persuasive speakers.

Sponsored by the Society of 1918.
