W&M Alumni in the DC area are invited to celebrate William & Mary's 325th birthday (celebrated in the month of February) by giving a day of service. This year, it's more than just a birthday party, it's about looking out for the most vulnerable in our community. Older people who feel lonely or isolated have a higher chance of depression and physical decline, especially around the holidays. Seabury's Age-In-Place? program supports older adults in Washington, D.C.'s Wards 4, 5, and 6 through transformative volunteer service projects that help people stay in their own homes.

This service project will take place indoors.

Metro pickup from the Brookland Metro Station is at 9:15 AM. If there is anybody that must drive, they can park on Channing St. NE where there is free parking.

Ages 12+ welcome.

Q: What does an Age in Place service day look like?

Volunteers arrive 15?-20 minutes prior to service at the AIP office (2501 18th Street NE) if driving or at the Brookland?CUA metro (red line). Service will follow 15?-20 minute orientation with AIP staff.

Volunteers help load tools into the van and an AIP staff member will drive volunteers to the client?s home.

Volunteers complete yard work and/or house cleaning projects, working alongside staff. This may include, but is not limited to: mowing grass, raking leaves, trimming hedges, cleaning kitchens and bathrooms, dusting, sweeping and mopping, vacuuming, washing windows and mirrors, etc. (We will be indoors during the winter months)

When possible, time for conversation and sharing with client is included (and is a vital piece of service!)

Once service is complete, AIP staff will drive the group back to the office to conduct a brief survey and offer time for reflection, questions, etc.
