The W&M Bray School Lab is devoted to studying, preserving, and sharing the history of the Williamsburg Bray School that educated enslaved and free Black children between 1760 and 1774. With one teacher during its entire history, the Bray School likely educated between 300 and 400 children in the Anglican faith, reading, and various marketable skills. The Lab is always looking for more thought partners, and W&M students from all majors and schools are welcome to drop by the Bray School Lab to learn more about its student research opportunities. The Bray School Lab is located in Travis House, 398 Francis St W (on the corner of Francis and S. Henry Streets, near Merchants Square).
