Calling the Faithful to Worship: Exploring the Use of Church Records in Genealogical Research
Church records can solve several types of family history mysteries. Not only do they provide evidence of life cycle events, but they also provide rich genealogical details and clues to other types of records. We invite you to join us for the third in our series of genealogy workshops sponsored by William & Mary’s Bray School Lab. Join Elizabeth Drembus, genealogist at the Lab, to learn how religious records are being used in the search for the descendants of the Williamsburg Bray School students and how to use religious records to trace your own family.
Elizabeth Drembus is leading efforts to identify and document the genealogical lines of all known Williamsburg Bray School students. Prior to joining William & Mary’s Bray School Lab, Elizabeth was a genealogist for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a member of the research team for the Virginia Theological Seminary’s Reparations Research Project. For over a decade, she has contributed her historical research expertise to projects in collaboration with local history organizations in Northern Virginia. Elizabeth credits her grandmother with sparking an interest in her family tree when she was in eighth grade.
