[PAST EVENT] FYE Seeks First-Year Initiatives (FYI) Directorate Applications!
The Office of First Year Experience collaborates with campus and community partners to create year-round First-Year Initiatives: thoughtful programming that supports new students (both first-time-in-college and transfer students) as they develop their authentic selves and explore their role within the W&M community.
We are aided in this process by our First-Year Initiatives Student Directorate. The Directorate is a paid student board that plans, designs, and facilitates year-round programming for first-year (and newer) students at William & Mary around one of five individual "focus" areas:
- Academic
: Initiatives connecting students with faculty members outside the classroom, and encouraging academic enrichment and the development of one's purpose post-graduation.
Community: Initiatives encouraging students to engage in discussions and conversations across campus about important current issues and events.
Distinctive : Initiatives designed to support students of distinctive groups (i.e. military/veteran, gap-year, first-generation, international student) within the W&M community.
Engagement: Initiatives encouraging students to become active members of the campus community.- Health & Wellness: Initiatives encouraging students to manage their physical, mental, and emotional health and find balance.
In addition to initiatives, members of the Directorate work at least two hours per week in the Office of First Year Experience, meet one-on-one with either the FYE Director or Assistant Director as needed, and attend weekly meetings.
The FYI Directorate Application is available now through noon on January 19th at https://wm.starrezhousing.com/StarRezPortalEmployment
