[PAST EVENT] University Teaching Project Workshop: Sexism and Search Engines
Access & Features
- Free food
- Open to the public
- Registration/RSVP
From sexist search engine results to inappropriate autocorrects, proprietary algorithms distort information and reinforce biases. How do we get students to recognize how these trends impact them on an individual level and affect their day to day information seeking? In this session, we’ll share active learning exercises that can truly depict to our students the non-neutrality of the web, and discuss ways to incorporate digital literacy into our teaching practices. We encourage you to bring your mobile device or laptop. The program is part of the University Teaching Project Series sponsored by University Libraries and the Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs. The workshop will be held in the Ford Classroom on the Ground Floor of Swem Library. A sandwich lunch will be served beginning at 11:30, so please RSVP at http://forms.wm.edu/42284 .
