Join us for an exciting discussion about two new books chronicling local Black history! 

The Williamsburg Bray School, 1760-1774: A History Through Records, Reflections, and Rediscovery is the W&M Bray School Lab’s first book project. Edited by Maureen Elgersman Lee, director, and Nicole Brown, graduate assistant, the book features 26 original essays on the history and legacies of the Williamsburg Bray School and its students.

Roses in December: Black Life in Hanover County from Civil War to Civil Rights is written by Jody Allen, Lemon Project director. Beginning in the era of Reconstruction and ending with desegregation, it chronicles the lives of newly freed people and their descendants in Hanover County, Virginia, providing an unprecedented look at rural Black Virginians’ resilience after disfranchisement.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own brown bag lunch. Light refreshments will be provided.
