[PAST EVENT] Campus Climate in the Post-Election Era
The Swem Library Diversity Committee invites you to a special live web event that will discuss building our community as we move forward with this political transition. The event will feature Expert in Residence Dr. Shaun Harper.
This fall has seen an increase in the number of individual bias incidents on campus ? many of which have gone viral, and resulted in heightened scrutiny of campus leadership. Since November 8 these incidents have increased, leaving many Muslim, LGBTQIA+, undocumented, Latino and Black students feeling less safe and more anxious than before the election. Join us for this live briefing featuring a panel of senior student affairs officers from a diverse range of institutions for a dialogue about how to engage with students in ways that will ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Dr. Shaun Harper, professor at the University of Pennsylvania and executive director of the Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education, will facilitate an interactive dialogue with our panelists:
? Mamta Accapadi, Vice President of Student Affairs, Rollins College
? Quincy Martin, Associate Vice President, Student Affairs, Triton College
? Larry Moneta, Vice President for Student Affairs, Duke University
? Ajay Nair, Senior Vice President and Dean of Campus Life, Emory University
? Thomas Parham, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, University of California, Irvine
? Penny Rue, Vice President for Campus Life, Wake Forest University
This event will be held in Swem Library's Ford Classroom, ground floor. Free and open to the public.
