The focus of the Symposium is on identity politics and where the categorizations typically ascribed to this term intersect and diverge when it comes to access to power. 'Identity politics' tends to concern a particular mindset and a point to which people subscribe for the purpose of not only finding a place in society, but for challenging the status quo when an infringement on rights causes societal fractures. This Symposium seeks to explore this through the examination of social, economic, and political ascension (and in some cases, decline).
