W&M Branch Out
Looking to get involved in something unique? fun? fulfilling? Our “Alternative-Alternative Breaks” provide members of the W&M community with an opportunity to engage in direct-impact service through a model of conscientious advocacy and activism. Branch Out is a student-led program with opportunities for learning, ethical leadership, mutually-beneficial service, and community involvement.
Traditionally, Branch Out provides opportunities to learn about various social justice issues in teams and engage with communities around the region during semester breaks through in-person service-learning activities. Due to the impacts of COVID-19, we have decided to adapt through moving our programs entirely virtual for the fall semester.
The Branch Out experience is unique: meeting with a team throughout the semester, you’ll learn about a set of social justice issues and how they impact the communities you're working with. Teams will engage in virtual service-based learning to make an impact while connecting with new people and developing skills in social justice advocacy.
Fall 2020 Programs
This fall, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the topics below while making intersectional connections with other social justice issues:
- Race & Reconciliation: Anti-Racist Education & Action
- Food Security & Health: Societal Impacts of COVID-19 Pandemic
Learn and make an impact while connecting with new people and developing skills in social justice advocacy. We aim to grow as active citizens - together.
