"Our Shared Journey: Race and Education through Public History," is a Black History Month Community Discussion and special performance of "Journey to Redemption" presented by Colonial Williamsburg. "Journey to Redemption" depicts the challenges Colonial Williamsburg actor-interpreters embrace in their portrayals of the enslaved and slaveholders of 18th-century America, with cast members breaking character to engage their audience directly.

The community panel will address the role of public history in engaging the public with the scope and complexity of African-American history. Scheduled panelists are:

?    Jamar Jones, Colonial Williamsburg actor-interpreter and Journey to Redemption cast member
?    Julie Richter, interim director of the National Institute of American History & Democracy at William & Mary
?    Stephen Seals, Colonial Williamsburg nation builder and community liaison (moderator)
?    Ari Weinberg, graduate assistant for the Lemon Project at William & Mary
