[PAST EVENT] Harpist and Williamsburg Native Returns to Wren Chapel

Nationally-known harpist and Williamsburg native Nancy Lendrim returns to her hometown to present a recital on Thursday, July 19 at 7:00 pm in the Wren Chapel on the campus of the College of William and Mary. She will perform a program of works for solo harp, including folk arrangements and light classical selections.
The Wren Chapel holds a special connection for Lendrim. Her father, Dr. Frank T. Lendrim, was Professor of Music at the College of William and Mary for more than 20 years. Dr. Lendrim presented hundreds of lecture/demonstrations and was organist for many weddings in the Wren Chapel. In addition, one of Nancy's first public performances was given at the Chapel when she was a teenager.
Nancy Lendrim is Principal Harpist of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, where she holds the Lois Nitschke Chair for Harp. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music, Nancy was a student of renowned harpist Alice Chalifoux. Her studies included twelve summers with Chalifoux at the Salzedo School in Camden, Maine.
Nancy has participated in several summer music festivals, including those in Breckenridge and Evergreen, Colorado; Madison, Wisconsin; Bar Harbor, Maine and Graz, Austria. She has appeared frequently as a soloist with the Toledo Symphony on their Chamber, Mainly Mozart and Neighborhood Concert series. She has also performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Detroit Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Her chamber music performances across the United States have been highlighted by numerous world premiere performances, most recently in St. Louis.
Nancy has appeared as a performer, presenter and clinician at regional, national and international harp conferences. She joined forces with fellow harpist Jody Guinn in 2000, creating the Salzedo Harp Duo. In 2002, Nancy performed at the Eighth World Harp Congress in Geneva, Switzerland with the Salzedo Harp Duo, and in 2008, the Duo performed at the Tenth World Harp Congress in Amsterdam. She has recorded with the Salzedo Harp Duo on the Azica label and with the Cleveland Orchestra on the London label. Her second disc with the Duo was released in 2008.
Teaching has always been an important part of Nancy's career. She is Instructor of Harp at the University of Toledo and the Toledo School for the Arts, and is Director of the Festival Harp Orchestra at the Saratoga Harp Colony in Saratoga Springs, New York. She was formerly on the faculty of the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. In 1997, she founded the Northwest Ohio Harp Week, and continues to serve as Co-Director of this music camp. In 2008, she was an adjudicator for the Young Artist Harp Competition in Rabun Gap, GA. Nancy is also Director and Coach of the Athena Harp Ensemble.
Offstage, Nancy maintains an active roster of private students, is President of the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the American Harp Society, and is a regular contributor and reviewer for The Harp Column magazine. Highlights for this summer include performing on a faculty recital at the Saratoga Harp Colony and conducting the American premiere of a new work for harp ensemble by British composer Paul Patterson. Nancy lives in Sylvania, Ohio with husband Roger Greive and sons Elliot and Oliver.
