Join Muscarelle Museum of Art Director David Brashear on a day-long bus trip for an insider’s view of the recent and upcoming renovations at two of Richmond’s premier museums. We’ll start the day at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, home of the Virginia Historical Society, the oldest cultural organization in Virginia. A guided tour with museum leadership and architects will take us inside the recently completed, award-winning renovations that transformed nearly 2/3 of the museum’s 250,000 square feet of space.
After a break for lunch, we’ll hear from Michael R. Taylor, Chief Curator and Deputy Director for Art and Education at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, about the 100,000 square foot expansion they will break ground on this summer. The new wing will house dedicated gallery spaces for the museum’s collection of African art, photography and 21st century art.
You’ll also have time to explore one (or both!) of the museums following the VMFA presentation.
Location: The bus will depart from the W&M School of Education Parking Lots 1 and 2.
Cost: $25 for Museum members, W&M faculty, staff and students; $35 for non-members
Tickets include transportation and VMHC admission. Lunch is on your own. You can choose to eat at the Museum Café in the VMHC, or at the Best Café or Amuse Restaurant in the VMFA. Please note that reservations are recommended for Amuse Restaurant; the lunch break will be from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM.
