Summary:
"Spanish director Sebasti?n, his executive producer Costa and all his crew are in Bolivia, in the Cochabamba area, to shoot a motion picture about Christopher Columbus, his first explorations and the way the Spaniards treated the Natives at the time. Costa has chosen this place because the budget of the film is tight and here he can hire supernumeraries, local actors and extras for cheap cost. Things go more or less smoothly until a conflict erupts over the privatization of the water supply. One of the local actors, is a leading activist in the protest movement, which will affect the movie production as well as how the movie identifies with the reality. History, fiction and reality intertwine in ?Even the Rain,?? which follows a Spanish film production company as they shoot a 16th century New World epic in Bolivia. The film is based on true events: The Cochabamba water riots of 2000, which left more than 100 people injured, eventually managed to keep the water supply public. Parallels between the struggles of the indigenous against the first imperialism seeking to take their gold and then companies seeking to privatize their water become clear".
