[PAST EVENT] LGBTIQ History Research Opportunity! W&M Mattachine Society Research Project - Interest Meeting
November 16, 2015
4pm - 6pm
The William & Mary Mattachine Research Project is recruiting student researchers for Spring 2016. Student research, under faculty guidance, will initially focus on state laws and policies that affected and may still affect the lives of LGBTIQ people in the Commonwealth. Students who participate in this important project will visit various archives around the state, including those at the Library of Virginia, the Virginia Historical Society, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the Valentine History Center.
The William & Mary Mattachine Research Project: "Documenting the LGBTIQ Past in Virginia" aims to better understand, chronicle, and preserve the history of LGBTIQ people in Virginia. This research project, launched in cooperation with the Mattachine Society of Washington, DC, one of the nation's oldest gay rights organizations, is part of a larger national effort to document the histories of LGBTIQ people and the policies and laws that have affected their lives. The materials uncovered through this project (when possible) will become part of a free and publicly accessible database for use by students, members of the national community, scholars, and teachers (among others). We will also produce exhibits, a finding aid, and inspire future research.
