Tamer Farag currently serves as Assistant Director for Strategic Analytics at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. His portfolio includes childhood mortality and infectious disease surveillance in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. In his travels, he works with local officials to determine causes of child deaths and to design appropriate interventions. With more than twenty years of experience in strategy and implementation, he has developed and led two of the largest Gates Foundation grants: the pathology-based Child Health, and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) network and the Countrywide Mortality Surveillance for Action (COMSA) initiative. He also coordinated the Global Enteric Multicenter Study (GEMS), the world's largest infectious disease research study.
