[PAST EVENT] A Scientist Walks into a Distillery: Seaside Shellfish Stories at the Copper Fox Distillery!
Location
Copper Fox Distillery, 901 Capitol Landing Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185Access & Features
- Open to the public
Join us at the Copper Fox Distillery in Williamsburg as Director of VIMS' Eastern Shore Laboratory in Wachapreague, Dr. Richard Snyder, celebrates the importance of shellfish in our region.
Oysters, clams, mussels, and scallops have a rich cultural, economic, and scientific history in coastal Virginia, from the native Americans to modern aquaculture. Dr. Snyder, originally from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and now Director of the VIMS Wachapreague Lab, will pull together elements of this history into compelling stories centered on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Understanding the backstory of your seafood will perhaps add a deeper dimension of enjoyment and appreciation of these delectable critters.
Following the presentation, VIMS outreach staff will have a shellfish-centered exhibit for you to interact with including microscopes, information, and more!
