Myisha Cherry, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Riverside, will give a talk titled “On James Baldwin and Black Rage” on Friday, April 29, 3:30-5:00 p.m. EDT, on Zoom.

Prof. Cherry’s research interest lies at the intersection of moral psychology and social and political philosophy. More specifically, she is interested in the role of emotions and attitudes in public life. Currently, she is doing work on anger, empathy, and forgiveness and how they intersect with issues of race and gender. In addition to her academic work, she has written publicly about political emotions, race, and justice for the Los Angeles Times, Salon, New Philosopher, and the Huffington Post. Cherry is also the host of the UnMute Podcast, a podcast where she interviews philosophers about the social and political issues of our day. Her recent book, The Case for Rage: Why Anger is Essential to Anti-Racist Struggle (Oxford University Press: 2021) makes a case for anger at racial injustice. Her next book, “The Failures of Forgiveness,” is slated for a Spring 2023 release with Princeton University Press.
