[PAST EVENT] Not So Simple View of Writing: Transcription and Composition Skills

Audience: Elementary general educators, ELL educators, special educators, and educators who support older struggling writers.

Description: The Not So Simple View of Writing (Berninger et al, 2006) provides a framework to understand the relationship between transcription skills, text generation or composition skills, working memory, and executive functioning. Participants will learn that transcription skills (handwriting, spelling, keyboarding) are as critical as composition skills for the development of proficient writers. These sessions will assist teachers in understanding how to use this model to determine students’ writing strengths and needs with an emphasis on transcription skills and sentence level instruction/composition

skills.
