[PAST EVENT] Region 3 Standards-based IEP Work Session

Target Participants: Teacher-leaders from Region 3 (one team of 4 teachers per division) who have participated in a recent standards-based IEP (SB-IEP) training either in person, online or via webinar, and have also been identified by their special education directors as having skills to contribute to IEP development. This might include special education teachers, general education math teachers, math curriculum specialists, or others designated by their school division. The goal is to develop a network of support and expertise within divisions.
It is expected that participants will replicate the work sessions in their home divisions.
Description: The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has introduced a new Standards-based IEP process. A standards-based IEP is current best practice and is also required for students who are being considered for participation in the Virginia Modified Achievement Standards Test (VMAST).
To assist school divisions as they implement the standards-based IEP process, T/TAC staff will facilitate this work session for district-selected teacher teams. This work session will review the SB-IEP process, including sample models, and provide hands-on practice in the development of PLoPs and annual goals. Emphasis will be placed on writing standards-based goals for mathematics that are closely aligned with students' grade level SOL content standards.
Required Materials: All participants should bring copies of a student's IEP with identifying information redacted, Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks for the student's current grade level placement and the next expected grade level, as well as the student's assessment/performance data. In addition, please bring the SB-IEP Guidance Document and appropriate SB-IEP Skills Worksheets which can be downloaded from the VDOE Standards-based IEP resources web page at: {{http://www.doe.virginia.gov/special_ed/iep_instruct_svcs/stds-based_iep/index.shtml,VDOE Standards-based IEP website}}.
Work Session: 9:30AM - 2:30PM. Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 9:00AM.
