[PAST EVENT] Spring UnBook Club: The Art of the Gathering
Access & Features
- Registration/RSVP
A reading group with no pressure to read! We’ll summarize the chapters and then jump into participant discussions of the concepts, activities, and challenges presented in the book ART OF GATHERING: HOW WE MEET AND WHY IT MATTERS. We will meet twice: 12-12:50 pm on Wednesday March 30 and April 6 in the Brown Board Room (3rd floor of Swem Library). These sessions will be facilitated by Candice Benjes-Small, Head of Research at W&M Libraries, and Dr. Meghan Miller of Psychological Sciences.
About the book:
Priya Parker’s book “The Art of Gathering,” asks, Why do we gather? Lockdown and quarantine showed how essential it is for people to gather, but unstated assumptions lead to get-togethers which are often underwhelming. Parker takes the reader inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn’t, and why. We will discuss how the ideas in this book can lead to more meaningful gatherings in the classroom, in committees, and in our personal lives.
“Don't read this book alone. Read it at a gathering of friends, in a book club, with a team of colleagues, or on a family reunion. But read it—for its wisdom, its charm, its insight, and its ability to make every encounter with others more meaningful and enjoyable. The Art of Gathering is a book long overdue, and just in time.” —Bruce Feiler, bestselling author of The Secrets of Happy Families
We have 9 print copies of the book to distribute to those who plan to attend both sessions. An online version is available to those who prefer that format, or who cannot commit to attending. RSVP/Registration at: https://wm.libwizard.com/f/ArtofGathering
