Geo Dept Fieldtrip—to VIMS Eastern Shore Lab-- March 28-29
Join us for a free overnight fieldtrip to Virginia's barrier islands!
We'll be boating to the nearby islands; learning about beach erosion and hurricanes; checking out heavy minerals; dredging the bottom of the Atlantic to catch sea urchins, snails, and clams; and exploring marsh migration.
We've got space for 25 students, and sign up is first-come, first-serve.
Never been to the beach? Or on a boat? No idea what to bring? No problem—we’re providing plenty of info on what to expect and helping you figure out what to pack.
Trip Leaders: Rowan, Chris, Linda, and Joanmarie
When: We’ll be leaving from W&M on Friday, March 28th at 2pm: Meet at the McGl loading dock (parking lot adjacent to the building). We’ll hop in vans for the 2.5-hour drive (with rest stop). We’ll drop you off at that same location at the end of the trip, late night on Saturday.
Cost: Nothing! The trip is all expenses paid-- with funding provided by Geo alums
Housing: We’ll be staying at the VIMS Eastern Shore Lab (ESL) (www.vims.edu/esl). The brand-new dorm sleeps 30 and has facilities for indoor & outdoor cooking, all-gender restrooms, and plenty of room to hang out.
Got questions? Please email Rowan (rxlock@wm.edu)
IMPORTANT: You’re required to wear shoes with closed toe and closed heels on boats, in the field, and around the ESL campus
